Army Daze
I am finally in the mood to blog! 3 weeks of BMT over. What are my opinions about life as a NS man? Training is quite ok, not too tough. There can be torturous moments and there are times when we are just really free. It's a pretty good balance, I don't feel overly tired or depressed. Pegasus Company Platoon 3 Section 4, this is where I belong. 9 out of the 13 of us are from SP. I could communicate well with most of them but yeah, you can't expect to blend in well with 100% of the people. Nothing is perfect, just hope that I can tolerate some of them cause anyway we are going to spend 3 months together.
So what have I learnt in the army beseides the SAF 7 Core Values? So far nothing much as its the Physical Training Phase. Learnt how to take care of my rifle, assemble it and to strip it. It's day after day of exercise and exercise. Food in the army is quite decent too, the only thing is, the green veggies are always yellowish in color by the time we have our meal and the milo taste like boiled water.
If you were to ask me, 'do you feel NS is a waste of time?' I will proudly answer you (at this moment) that it's not a waste of time. I am doing my part in defending my country. Right now, you could say its all-talk-no-action. If a war breaks out, will I have enuff guts to fire off at an enemy? If I were to be captured, will I not be afraid of getting tortured? Those are the questions that I could not really answer accurately right now, I cannot imagine the horrors of war unleashed onto us and I do not know how I will react then. However,if you ask me if I'm willing to die for my country, I would say yes.
'The more you sweat in peacetime, the less u bleed in wartime,' this was what my sargeant told us. I agree with what he've said. I cannot confirm how I will react in war, but as of now, what I can do for this country is to train hard in the army, to make myself into a competent defender of the country and to deter enemies from thinking of whacking us.This is what I'm doing now, not wasting 2 years of my life away, but playing a part in keeping Singapore safe for everyone.
So anyway, I'm out of camp at the moment because of the SP Graduation Ceremony. I will be the valecdictorian for SMIT (School Of Media and Infcommunications Technology) . I attended the first session today to receive my Lee Kuan Yew Award medal and certificates. People have been asking me how much will I receive for the award? The answer is a few hundred dols (not the thousands you all were expecting).
What does it feel like to be a Lee Kuan Yew Award Winner? Nothing much really (besides the fact you are bloody happy like hell). It was pretty cool, suddenly I became quite popular? People were taking picutes of me. I spent most of the time there taking pictures with people. In fact, I did not eat much at the guest reception. Only 1 or 2 bites, even though I was starving. I got to interact with the other award winners too, pretty nice knowing them. They are all great people (the gers are NICE too!=x). I managed to see some of my friends to. Worth mentioning is Jasper. Bloody guy went to touch my botak head when he saw me -_-. Nvm, he's losing his hair on friday too!Anyway, tomorrow I will be giving the valedictory speech. Hope I don't get unnerved by the surroundings. I've practised hard. I've invited my frens there..haha hope i dun disappoint them.
And yeah. I am a couple with J now =P She've agreed to be mine. Very happy over this, I think this time I've found the right girl for me.So yeap, other potential candidates who are queuing for me. It is with my greatest regret to inform ALL of you that I am not available anymore=P Thankew and have a nice day:P

Finally. The day has arrived. I went out with J today! Caught the 2pm screening of the Da Vinci Code with her at Lido( yes i know its pretty late to catch the movie. but no choice due to the circumstances that we are in).
We bought our tickets and went to macs for lunch. As usual, 'Lunch' for her meant desserts. I had a Fish Fillet Student meal while she had an apple pie + a small drink for lunch. The last time i met her. she had some other fanciful dessert for lunch as well. So yeap, we entered the cinema without any ID checks. She looks older den her age.. or maybe coz the dudes at Lido were slacking. Lido Theatre 7 it was, the seats totally suck. The guys head in front was blocking my view and the screen was pretty small and too high up.
As we were pretty early, I presented her with her bday present. Its not her birthday yet. But anyway, I just gave it to her in advanced as I will be in the army when her day arrives. I hope she likes it tho. haha i took quite some time to decide on buying it. But yeah, pretty disappointed with the packaging of the gift. I paid quite a sum for it and the 'box' for holding it was kinda erm.. low-quality looking.
Soon, the movie started. Hmm, it wasn't really interesting. I would say that, the Da Vinci Code isn't suitable for being adapted into a movie. It felt more like a documentary with some drama added into it. But anyway, it beats reading a damn book for hours! Why read a book when I can roughly understand the contents through a 2 hour movie?
Movie ended at about 4:40. We walked around Isetan and stuff. We were just doing some aimless window shopping and walking around. It was pretty enjoyable walking around with her.
Soon, I had to send her home. On the way back to Lido, something erm..interesting happened. I was actually stoning and looking at one of the rotating ad posters in the underpass and there was walking next to me. She smiled and asked me, 'what you looking at ah!!'. So erm yeah.. I think that she think that i was looking at her boobs or something-_-. (Can verify with me?) But yeah, I was just stoning actually. Funny why I did not feel giddy today. The rotating ads at the Lido underpass used to make me feel giddy.
We took bus 105 to her place. I sent her up all the way to her apartment. And erm surprisingly, she invited me into her home (we did not do anything at her home =P). I was expecting her to not let me in. It's a pretty nice place, got a good view of the swimming pool from there. And at the same time, the place is pretty bright. It doesn't have the gloomy look that my house has. HEr house was quite well-kept. Everything was kept pretty tidy and stuff. She showed me around the place. 'This is my room!Want to see the kitchen?! I picked the color of the cabinet!' I'd asked her to play the piano for me. haha but she refused. hmm i think maybe coz she's shy or something la..scared play some notes wrongly den i suan her :P but yeap..the house inspection soon ended and I left for SP.
The journey to SP was pretty tiring. I took bus 105 again,this time in the direction towards orchard road, where we first came from. Almost fell asleep in the bus several times...but yeah.. speech rehearsal was alright. I think i'm definitely better den my competitor at this moment. However, he will be enlisting only after graduation.This means that he got more time for formalised training with the lecturers. Hope I can be the main speaker for that day.

Just came home after spending the day doing some stuff.
Firstly, soccer in the afternoon. Nothing spectacular..scored a few nice goals again. But yeah Tommy sprained his ankle. Guess have to be more careful when running towards the wall of the street soccer court..
But yeah, the main thing was. I went out with 'lora' today. IT was damn siaooo. Met up..went to lil india. Komalas was too full! No place to eat. Went to this place called the 'dosa corner' or something. Food was average. But...haha the white color gravy ... jingga found a live worm in it! it was chao er xin. but yeah..she wasn't freaked out by it.. Luckily i dun touch the white coconut thing one.
Ok so..we went to suntec. hoping to catch 'Over the hedge'. Xmen was out coz she already watched it. and ... Da Vinci was out since i was placed on an exclusive queue with someone else. So anyway...THERE WERE NO TIX for all the cinemas we went to! It was a bit siao lar... but yah..guess wad. Ended up walking from Suntec to esplanade...to Merlion Park... to Boat Quay...to Clarke Quay. Haha steady hor? But yeah. it was pretty fun spending the night with her liddat, even tho there was nothing accomplished. No movies...no nothing. She has got a nice personality lar.. and yah..she's freaking easy to suan ( and bully)..but anyway. hope to meet up wif her again. she's leaving for the US soon!

Went for the press conference this morning. haha almost couldn't make it. but anyway. the project went live as expected and as such they could afford me having a half day off to attend the conference.
Well, its pretty interesting actually. Haha i got video shots taken for both channel 5 and chn 8. But yeah..interested pls dun watch the ch8 version. my chinese isn't really wunderbar:D But yeah, I met someone rather interesting that day! Carin, one of the other award winnners. She was from IJ TP and guess what? She also attended NYJC for 3 mths just like me! But yeah, quite a friendly ger and hmmm. who knows.. maybe bern and the rest knows her.
Anyway, I got interviewed(in english) by lian he zao bao and by mediacorp news. don't know if i will appear on the straits times. Maybe not. But yeah.will definitely be on tv. haha i think it will be quite funny. feel so weird in front of the camera. I managed to meet up with a few of my lecturers too. and yeah it was actually fun chatting with the reporters. haha duno if they will go back and write bad stuff about me, coz i keep speaking in singlish. haha abit too casual bah.
the sch director was like telling me lots of stuff about scholarships and about the army. hmm, ok lar..he was being thoughtful, but i already have tonnes of such advices flying at me le. but i just nodded along just to show at least some form of respect.
Ok. Interview was over...went to work. Resolved a few non-issues. Went to Brewerks. Wah lan. It was mad man! 'Fucai! Congrats to u winning the LKY AWARD!CHEERS!' So yeah. I almost got drunk man! My fish and chips were the beer battered kind(pam recommend me one! bleah. its not nice leh!!!). I had already drunk about 1/5 of my beer by then and the beer battered fish sort of made it worse.
I don't usually drink. In fact, I used to dislike the idea of drinking. I would never touch alcohol and stuff. But anyway, there were just 2 good reasons to celebrate. Firstly, the project went LIVE! Secondly, I got the award. But yeah, the guys in the office saw the email that I sent to J that day asking her out for lunch-_- bleah got made fun of like hell man! haha. They told me that they were waiting for me to get drunk before they grab my phone and make a call to her.
I downed about 3 to 4 cups of beer. And yeah. they said i was drinking too quickly. And yeah.. i could say that i almost got drunk!. I could'nt walk properly and had problem maintaining my balance. But anyway..right now i'm fine. But it was really really crazie. After drinking so much, the beer don't really taste horrible anymore.
I had finished my first cup quickly as I wanted to get it over and done with. Since beer tastes like crap. but yeah...they kept refilling my cup-_-.
Yeap, that's the end of the day. need rest:D

CUTOVER MANIA! HOOO!
Cutover started on thursday.. 18/5/06. avg of 5 hour slp a day. avg of 13 hr work a day..
today i did 2330-0800 = 15.5 hours of work. my *******(obsfucated) module cocked up.
f-tired now...the other dudes stil in office. all tired.. pple asleep on the flr..pple slpin on desk..pple slping on the 'snack' bar. everyone armed wif toiletries.. some are well equipped wif matresses and slping bags.
will not be able to go for bbq/chalet during weekends...
will not be able to meet j for lunch on sun...
slp nw... update when torture week(or even longer..is over)
look forward to end...
